“Everything I learned, I know from dogs” - Nora Roberts
Even though dogs only take up a fraction of our lives, they leave an emotional impact greater than any other. Their inherent kindness and loyalty are what draws us to them. If you are out there in search of a companion, what better one than a dog?
Lavanya’s Story
Lavanya Sunkara shares similar ideals. Lanvanya suffered a back injury which put her into an early retirement. She spent her days wishing for a purpose and to return to her action-filled days. As a former EMT volunteer and part-time manager of a popular pizzeria. Her setback led her to suffer from a mental health decline. Her coping mechanisms were not the healthiest, and her husband worked long hours.
Little did she know that her days of struggles would end the second she discovered an adoption center. She soon rescued a gentle soul named Monte. Monte pulled her out of her depressive episode and into a new chapter of her life. Monte and her both learned how to trust and they carried each other through low parts of their lives. Monte and Lavanya entered dog shows, trained with one another, and found each other when they couldn’t have been more lost. Monte returned purpose to Lavanya’s life. (Sunkara, 2022).
How Can Monte’s Story Help YOU
Like so many other dogs, Monte has demonstrated once again the value of a faithful companion. They have dutifully stood out as one of the most calming animals, service dogs or not. They can sense stress, low blood sugar, anxiety, danger, and much more. All they ask in return is to be loved and treated with kindness. A dog could be just what you’re searching for on your mental health path. One way to do so is to have a loyal companion guide you on your way. So, the next time you feel trapped in your environment, take a stroll through the great outdoors. Yet, bring your dog, and know that you never have to be alone.
